This is an orchestrated version of the fifth piece from Federico Mompou’s “Impresiones Intimas”. Federico Mompou was a Spanish composer primarily known for his works for solo piano. He is considered a miniaturist composer; in his own words, he was “a man of few words and a musician of few notes”. Some of his compositional techniques include bell-like chords, impressionism, and the combination of diatonic melody with rich chromatic harmony. Many of his works have been orchestrated including his piano solo “Pajaro triste”, and my goal with “Pajaro triste” was simply to show that there is beauty (and drama!) in simplicity.
